ABSTRACT
THE IMPACT OF VENTURE CAPITAL ON STARTUP GROWTH
This study examines the impact of venture capital on startup growth with objectives: (1) to assess the role of venture capital in scaling startups; (2) to identify the factors influencing successful venture capital investments; (3) to understand the challenges faced by venture-backed startups. A survey research design is employed to gather quantitative data. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 300 respondents from Lagos is selected, representing various venture capital firms and startups. A tech startup is chosen as the case study due to its significant growth through venture capital funding. The reliability coefficient score for the survey instrument is 0.86. Findings indicate that venture capital significantly accelerates startup growth by providing not only funding but also strategic guidance and networking opportunities. However, challenges include high expectations from investors and the pressure to scale rapidly. It is recommended that startups seek venture capital to fuel growth, maintain transparent communication with investors, and balance rapid expansion with sustainable business practices.
